Controlling Biting

May 29, 2015, 3:51 AM
Q: Is it ok to tap my puppy on the nose hen she is biting... I hear mixed messages and do not want to use unnecessary force but do want to stop her aggressive play and establish boundaries
A: That is the deterent that I usually use. Some trainers say the hand should not be part of the correction since it is the object of the biting but to me it only makes sense since your hand is right there and provides immediate objection to the behavior. I compare it to the result of touching a hot object- immediate, rememberable results.
