Appearance

Small, fluffy, and cute beyond measure, Cockapoo puppies have all the right features to melt your heart on sight. Being a Poodle Cocker spaniel mix gifts these gorgeous dogs with all the best qualities their parents have to offer.

Although they can sport certain features from one of their parents more, they usually appear with a blend of traits from both the Poodle and the Cocker Spaniel. Given their parents’ height and weight, the Cockapoo size can range from small to toy-sized. A full-grown Cockapoo adult will grow 10 to 15 inches tall and weigh between 12 and 25 pounds.

Because they are a blend of two dissimilar-looking dog breeds, Cockapoos can appear with different coat textures. Straight, wavy, and curly-haired coats are possible textures for Cockapoo hair. Straight and wavy-textured hair can become curlier as Cockapoo puppies reach adulthood. These sweet-looking dogs may also sport some color markings and patterns that belong to either parent breed. Common colors include black, white, tan, brown, red, merle, and sable. Cockapoo adults are sturdy-built, athletic, and quite agile. They perform well in sporting competitions and have what it takes to keep up with their owners on hikes and bike runs.

Temperament

Cockapoos are the adventurers of Dogdom. These darling dogs love to take on the world with tail wags and bouncy paws. They make instant friends with everyone they meet and are quite good at lifting spirits. With a Cockapoo puppy around, boredom, sadness, and loneliness are off the table. Cockapoos have an upbeat personality and an attentive nature, both excellent qualities for therapy work. They are also very clever and can be trained to perform stunts and entertain others with funny tricks.

With parents like the Cocker spaniel and the Poodle, Cockapoo puppies impress from the get-go. They inherit strong loyal tendencies, calm temperaments, an affectionate disposition, and natural obedience. Their playfulness and kindness make them ideal pets for small children, young adults, and families. Home is where their heart is. They thrive near their humans and want nothing else than to be loved and doted on.

Care

Cockapoo Grooming

Cockapoo dogs have very few requirements when it comes to their grooming needs. They are a low-maintenance dog breed that doesn’t shed much and that requires very little grooming effort on your part. These beautiful dogs need one or two weekly brushing sessions and a bath every 2-3 months to keep their coats luxurious and healthy.

Cockapoos, like most dog breeds, can develop dental issues if not properly cared for. It is beneficial to wash their teeth as frequently as possible and provide them with plenty of dental sticks to chew on. You should also check and clean their ears regularly and trim their nails if they get too long.

Cockapoo Exercise Needs

Cockapoos are toy-sized dogs that have a great passion for adventures and fun. They love running around off-leash, hiking, chasing toy balls, speeding, and going on long evening strolls. Because they are an energetic dog breed, you can expect them to crave a life of fun outings and long walks by your side. 2 or three walks every day will keep them in good shape and happy. Cockapoos also love to exercise their brilliant minds so it would be beneficial for them to have a few puzzles and games around to help with that.

Cockapoo Health

As a mix of two purebred dog breeds, the Cockapoo is blessed with excellent health and a long lifespan. Because of their crossbreed status, Cockapoos cancel out many of the ailments that affect their parents. They can still develop certain conditions but they are less likely to inherit any serious illnesses. Cockapoo health issues may include vision problems, dental issues, and hip dysplasia.

Cockapoo Lifespan

As a healthy and happy dog breed, the Cockapoo enjoys a lifespan of 13 to 15 years. You can increase your Cockapoo’s life expectancy by providing your dog with plenty of love, energy outlets, and high-quality dog food.

Cockapoo Training

Like their Poodle parent, Cockapoo puppies are renowned for their intelligence and cleverness. These clever Cockapoo puppies train very well and respond positively to a warm approach and reward-based training. Yelling, using punishment, or a harsh tone of voice will have the opposite effect and should be avoided. Training Cockapoo puppies should be done in a gentle manner with games, treats, and lots of praise to get the best results.

To have a well-behaved adult Cockapoo dog, socializing is essential and should begin as early as possible. Cockapoos are naturally friendly dogs that love to socialize and make friends, but they should still be introduced young to various situations, people, and other pets, in order to remove any possible shyness or reservedness.

Cockapoo puppies can become overly attached to their owners, especially if they are constantly spoiled and pampered, and clingy dogs are more likely to develop separation anxiety and destructive behavior when they find themselves without their owners. Teaching your Cockapoo puppy to be independent is one of the most important lessons you need to take on.

Allow your puppy time to be comfortable with you leaving before you leave him or her alone for the first time. Make sure to provide toys, treats, and a comfortable environment when you leave your puppy alone. The best way to teach your Cockapoo to be independent is to leave him or her alone for a few minutes at a time, and increase the time as he or she becomes less affected by your leaving.

History

Cockapoo puppies are a Cocker spaniel Poodle mix that originated in the United States a little over six decades ago. Since their debut, these puppies have been adored in every corner of the world for their stunningly cute looks and endearing personalities. They made the United Kingdom’s list of top dogs and are the most favored companion pet across Australia. The United States also has one of its top spots in the dog popularity chart reserved for the Cockapoo puppies each year. These dogs are famous for their remarkable intelligence, agility, love of life, and affectionate nature.

Because their popularity skyrockets every year, Cockapoo breeders always work on furthering and defining the breed. Cockapoo puppies can now be found in four size variations (Mini Cockapoo, Toy Cockapoo, Teacup Cockapoo, Micro Teacup Cockapoo) and three generations:

F1 Cockapoo Puppies - Cockapoo puppies that are first-generation bred are a half and half mix between a purebred Cocker spaniel and a purebred Miniature or Toy Poodle. These puppies have good hypoallergenic qualities and excellent health.

F1B Cockapoo puppies - Cockapoo puppies that are second-generation bred have a Cockapoo parent that is backcrossed with a Miniature or Toy Poodle. These puppies have a curlier coat, much like their Poodle parent, and better hypoallergenic qualities. They are also smaller than F1 Cockapoo dogs and have more Poodle features.

F2 Cockapoo puppies – Cockapoo puppies that are third-generation bred are the offspring of two Cockapoo parents. These puppies have excellent hypoallergenic qualities, more defined looks, and smaller sizes.
