Appearance

The Pomapoo is a small toy-sized dog that has an elegant appearance and an athletic build. They are a designer crossbreed of two very different-looking parent breeds, the Pomeranian and the Poodle.

Because their parents are quite different-looking, Pomapoos can sport various looks, sizes, and colors. They may inherit the Poodle’s curly, non-shedding coat, or appear with the Pom’s straight, moderate-shedding coat. Some of their other features can vary as well, depending on which of their parents they take after more. They may sport cute floppy ears like their Poodle parent or have the Pomeranian’s pointy elvish ears.

The size of these cute lapdogs can vary quite a bit as well, however, they will still be small like both of their parent breeds. They typically weigh between 8 and 10 pounds and grow to an average of 8 to 10 inches. Their eyes are black or hazel-colored with dark eye rims that give them a cute puppy look even when they are adults. Their muzzle is short to narrow with a strong jawline that gives them a chiseled face shape.

Temperament

The Pomapoo temperament is gentle, friendly, and caring. They are great family dogs and excellent companions for children. They have a fun-loving nature and love to be the center of attention. Their intelligence level is high, which makes them easy to train even for first-time pet owners.

Because they are such sweet-tempered dogs, training them is one of the easiest and most enjoyable activities. They are likely to follow any command as long as praise, attention, and treats are involved.

Non-territorial and highly sociable, these dogs will get along well with their furry siblings. Multi-pet households are a wonderful living environment for these dogs. Having multiple siblings will keep them busy and entertained while their owners are away from home. This can also help them avoid any destructive behavior that might come from separation anxiety.

Care

Grooming

Pomapoo grooming is the process of keeping your pup looking and feeling its best. While Pomeranians and Poodles have contrasting coat types, both have a medium-length straight or curly coat that requires regular brushing. You'll need to brush your pup every day or every other day if their coat is long, and you can get by with brushing once a week if their coat is short.

Most Pomapoos do not require frequent bathing, but it's still important to bathe them at least once every 3 or 4 months. This will help remove any dead skin cells, dander, and dirt trapped in their coats and keeps them smelling fresh. Bathing should be done when necessary, rather than as part of a routine because frequent baths can strip natural oils from their skin. The natural oils that are in their coats help keep them hydrated during warmer weather.

Their ears should also be cleaned regularly to avoid infection due to humidity, rashes, or dirt. Teeth should also be brushed at least once per day to help prevent dental problems from developing later in life.

Exercise Needs

Pomapoos are small dogs that don’t require much exercise. They can get enough exercise with just a walk each day. However, if you want to give your pup more exercise, it’s easy to do so. They love to run and play with their owners and other dogs. They also enjoy playing with toys, so if you have time for some indoor games with your Pomapoo, that’s great.

Pomapoos aren’t meant for long periods of outside time in hot weather or cold weather. Although this doesn’t happen often, extreme temperatures can lead them to suffer from heatstroke or hypothermia.

Health

Pomapoos are a hybrid breed that is gaining popularity in recent years. They're small, friendly, and intelligent. However, they can have some health issues that you need to be aware of before bringing one home.

Pomapoos may be prone to cataracts, like all dogs and humans, usually in their senior years. This condition causes cloudy spots on the lens of the eye and can lead to vision loss or even blindness if left untreated. They should receive regular eye exams from their veterinarian throughout their lives so any potential issues can be caught early enough for treatment. If you notice cloudy spots developing in their eyes, contact your vet right away so they can schedule an exam for your pooch.

Another common issue with Pomapoos is dental disease, which can lead to tooth loss and gum disease if left untreated. Dental problems are more common in older dogs but can happen at any age if not taken care of properly. To prevent dental disease from affecting their health, brush their teeth daily using toothpaste formulated specifically for dogs (human toothpaste contains ingredients that could harm your dog). Ask your vet about a chewable treat made specifically for cleaning teeth.

Lifespan

The average life expectancy for Pomapoos is 12-14 years. Pomapoos will live longer than this average if they are cared for properly by their owners. Some have been seen to reach as much as 16 years without suffering from any health problems throughout their lives. Like the Pomeranian and Poodle breeds, they can live to the amazing age of 20.

Training

Pomapoos are intelligent, affectionate, loyal, and energetic dogs. They are eager to please their owners, which makes them easy to train. They also form close bonds with their families, making them good companions for children. However, this breed can be prone to separation anxiety if left alone for extended periods of time.

They can be trained using reward-based methods such as praise, treats, and toys. These small dogs respond well to positive reinforcement. Training can be a challenge, but it is also very rewarding. As with any dog, the key to successful Pomapoo training is consistency. You need to be consistent with your training methods and you need to be consistent in your application of rewards.

History

The Pomapoo is a new designer crossbreed, born of a Pomeranian and a Toy Poodle, both purebreds. This lovely breed was created in the United States a little over 20 years ago and has been on an ever-rising path to success ever since.

Pomapoos were designed to inherit every amazing characteristic of their parents. They were envisioned as a new hypoallergenic lapdog with the size and general appearance of the Pomeranian. Some of the personality traits of their parents were also purposely blended to create the perfect little lapdog.

While the Pomapoo doesn't yet have an extensive history of its own, we can rely on the histories of its parent breeds to gain better insight into this lovely designer puppy.

The Pomeranian is a breed of dog that originated in Pomerania, a region in Central Europe, and is named after the Pomeranian people. The Pomeranian dog is classified as a Spitz-type dog that descended from a larger sled dog bred for working in cold temperatures. Although their original size was much bigger, Queen Victoria, who took a liking to them, began her own breeding program to diminish their size to the adorable toy size of today.

Poodles are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. They have been bred into three different sizes: Standard Poodle, Miniature Poodle, and Toy Poodle. Originally from Germany, they were bred down to a smaller size for better handling. These popular curly dogs are renowned for their versatility and intelligence. They are currently ranked as the second smartest breed in Dogdom, according to the American Kennel Club.

Because the Pomapoo is a crossbreed and not a purebred dog like its parents, the American Kennel Club does not recognize it yet. The breed is recognized by other kennel clubs such as the American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Dog Registry of America, and the International Designer Dog Registry.
