Appearance

A toy-sized designer breed, the Yorkie Poo is one of the cutest dogs on the planet. He inherits the best features of his parents, often resembling a small, curly Yorkie. You will find this dog appears happy all the time, almost smiling through his cute muzzle.

Yorkie Poos are typically small, but depending on the size of their Poodle parent, they can reach between 7 and 15 inches tall. Toy Poodles in the mix will pass on their teacup-like size. The adult weight of Yorkie Poos is also determined by the parents used in the mix. Smaller Yorkie Poodles can weigh as little as 3 pounds, while larger ones can reach up to 14 pounds.

The coats and color markings of these dogs are also a combination of the coats and colors of the parent breeds. But, more often than not, Yorkie Poos have the same gorgeous colors and markings as the Yorkie parent. They can come in silver, black, brown, white, tan, apricot, and red with various combinations of any two or three of these colors.

Their ears are either raised or floppy, depending on which parent they take after more, and their noses are little black buttons. Their eyes are quite expressive and dark in color, and their muzzle is medium-sized to small.

Temperament

A combination of spunk, feistiness, and joy, the Yorkie Poo is a fantastic little dog. You will find him exploring his territory through every nook and cranny and digging into laps for the comfiest place to nap. These dogs have a keen curiosity and tend to be alert almost all the time, aspects you will find endearing. They alert to visitors or intruders but are otherwise quiet.

Friendliness is also in their genes. They're happy to make friends with all the people they meet and love to interact with other dogs both their size and bigger. It is recommended that you supervise them when they play with larger dogs. Their frame is very small, and they could get injured easily.

Life at home for these dogs is about spending time with their owners/families. They adore cuddles and are very fond of games. They also crave to be part of whatever is going on around them.

Care

Grooming

Whether they’re kept in a long or short clip, these beautiful dogs are easy to groom. They don’t shed, which means they will require you to spend a few minutes brushing them every two or three days. Grooming them also involves monthly or bi-monthly baths, trips to the groomer for haircuts every two months, and dental care.
Dental care is perhaps the most important grooming aspect for these dogs since they, like most small breeds, can be prone to several dental issues. It’s best to brush their teeth daily if you can, to avoid tartar buildup, bad odor, and dental decay.

Their ears also need cleaning and checking to ensure there are no bad odors or signs of infection. Rashes, infections, dirt, and debris can all be present in your dog’s ear, which is why it is essential to check and clean their ears several times per week.

Exercise Needs

Yorkie Poos are energetic little dogs that enjoy spending their time on the move doing activities that allow them to explore, inspect, and make friends. They are not as energetic as larger breeds, but they still require regular daily walks and exercise. These small doodle dogs will do best with one or two short daily walks and an interactive game or two at home.

Health

Because they are a mixed breed, these little canines enjoy great health. Although they may inherit a few mild conditions that are common in the breeds of their parents, they generally live their entire lives without any health problems. Some of the health issues they can encounter, especially during their senior years, include patellar luxation, cataracts, glaucoma, allergies to food, skin allergies, Legg Calve Perthes disease, and hip dysplasia. Regular vet checks are recommended to ensure these conditions are identified early and treated accordingly.

Lifespan

Yorkie Poos have a life expectancy of 15 years, but like their parents, they can reach as much as 20 when they’re raised in a loving environment and given proper care. To ensure your little pooch gets to live a long, happy life, you need to provide plenty of opportunities for daily exercise, good quality food, and regular vet checkups.

Training

Yorkie Poos are incredibly smart dogs, but that doesn’t always mean they’re easy to train. Inheriting a bit of stubbornness from their Yorkshire Terrier parent, these puppies can become bored easily if you don’t motivate them to their liking. It is best to use plenty of treats and games when training these puppies. They need to feel like training sessions are a fun activity. Positive reinforcement also goes a long way, so make sure to use that approach.

Basic commands and tricks should be easy for a motivated Yorkie Poo puppy to learn. As a dog that is eager to make his owners happy, he is sure to pick up on things quickly. It's important to note that dogs who are eager to please their owners will not take well to being scolded or punished. It is best to avoid yelling at your tiny puppy or scolding him in any way as this can be quite counterproductive.

History

The adorable Yorkie Poo breed is quite new compared to other dog breeds. It only appeared a little over 20 years ago in the United States, its place of origin. It is a mix between two gorgeous and highly popular purebred breeds – the Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle. The breed is also known by other names such as Yorkie Doodle, Yorkie Doo, Yorki Poo, Yorkie Poodle, and Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle mix.

Yorkie Poo puppies became a hit the moment they opened their sweet puppy eyes. They made headlines with their looks and charmed countless dog lovers with their delightful personalities. Their hypoallergenic coats are also a big win for owners since these dogs are one of the best breeds for allergy sufferers. They don’t produce as much dander like other dogs and shed very little, if at all.

Yorkshire terriers and Poodles of all sizes are top picks for crossbreeding. Breeders choose them not only for their adorable looks but also for their amazing personality traits.

Poodles are one of the most popular purebreds in the world, holding second place as the most intelligent dogs too. They’re quite versatile and have a history filled with amazing achievements. They’ve been military k9s, therapy dogs, show dogs, and champions in the sporting rings. Television and social media love them too, with millions of Poodle enthusiasts worldwide.

Yorkies are another favorite breed of the canine world. They’re adored in every corner of the world, and you would have a hard time finding their faults. These toy dogs are smart, intelligent, incredibly loving, and as cute as can be. They are also the holders of countless titles in the sporting world and have held jobs in a myriad of fields.

Naturally, all of these qualities that Poodles and Yorkies possess, are passed down to the amazing Yorkie Poo puppy.
