Appearance

With fashionable looks and a lovely personality to match, the Aussiechon is the perfect example of what designer dogs are all about. A superb blend of features, traits, and build, the Aussiechon displays a perfectly balanced combination of its parent breeds.

Aussiechons are a small dog breed that stands at 10 to 18 inches tall and weighs an average of 8 to 20 pounds (for a full-grown Aussiechon). Their demeanor is friendly and they appear warm and playful. As they inherit looks from both the Mini Aussie and the Bichon Frise, their appearance may vary from one puppy to the next. Aussiechon dogs have an athletic-built body and, despite their small size, they are strong, resilient, and fast. Their muzzle is of a medium length and their nose diamond-shaped.

Aussiechon eyes are almond-shaped and can come in shades of brown, black, or blue. Their ears are small and precious and they hang close to their face. Aussiechons have straight to wavy-textured coats that can grow to a medium or long length. Common Aussiechon colors include merle, red, apricot, tan, white, black, and shades of brown. Their coats can come in a solid color or combinations of the colors above. The Aussiechon sheds little and has hypoallergenic qualities.

Temperament

Aussiechons are calm, gentle dogs that lack aggressive behavior entirely. Their essence is that of a soft, playful, and happy-go-lucky dog that loves to love. Whether they’re at home going about their toy-chewing business or at the park getting into friendly dog chases, Aussiechons are the definition of good dogs. They share their toys, make fast friends, and display a well-rounded behavior in any situation.

A lover of cuddles, friend-making, and adventures, the Aussiechon is all about living life to the fullest. Aussiechons love to have fun and, whether they’re at the dog park or indoors, they will always be actively seeking ways to partake in a fun activity. They are passionate about dog games, long walks around the neighborhood, games of Frisbee and hide-and-seek, furry interactions, hiking, runs, and tugs of war. Like most small dogs, they are also fans of being doted on, cuddled, and spoiled.

Given that they are half Aussie and half Bichon, Aussiechons have loyalty and owner-attachment deeply rooted in their genetic make-up. These dogs thrive in the presence of their humans and crave to be involved in as many activities as possible. Despite their strong desire to be near their owners, Aussiechons aren’t known to be particularly dependent and can be left alone for a few hours.

When it comes to friendliness and social skills, Aussiechons check all the boxes. They adore everyone they meet and are quite enthusiastic about making new friends among other four-legged creatures. Their behavior towards small children is gentle and they are more than capable of keeping teens entertained with cute tricks and funny stunts. Because they are half Aussie, they might also have some herding skills up their fluffy sleeves.

Care

Aussiechon Grooming

Whether they are kept in long or short hairstyles, Aussiechons are a breeze to groom and manage. They require a quick brushing or combing every week or so to keep their coats tangle and matt-free. A monthly bath is recommended for a healthy and shiny-looking coat. Aussiechon nails should be clipped after every bath if the dogs don’t wear them down on their own. Their teeth need to be brushed regularly because Aussiechons, like all small dogs, are prone to dental issues. It’s also beneficial to check their ears for any debris and clean them frequently.

Aussiechon Exercise Needs

Although small, Aussiechons have plenty of energy to burn off. They love to run, hike, swim, chase toys, and play games, which in turn translates to – that is what they need. The best routine for Aussiechons should consist of at least 2 daily walks and some active play sessions indoors. As a moderately active breed, these dogs require daily exercise of up to 40 minutes. As mental stimulation is just as important as physical workouts, it is best to provide these beautiful dogs with puzzles and games to keep their minds exercised.

Aussiechon Training

Aussiechon puppies are exceedingly bright and easy to train. They love to learn new things and are quite eager to please their trainer. Training these puppies should be done in a gentle manner with short and fun daily sessions. They should never be yelled at or punished as those methods will have the opposite effect on Aussiechon puppies. Socializing Aussiechon puppies when they are very young should go smoothly as these dogs are naturally outgoing and friendly.

History

One of the most popular designer dogs in the United States, the Aussiechon impresses with excellence in looks, personality, and temperament. A hybrid of a purebred Miniature Australian Shepherd and a purebred Bichon Frise, the Aussiechon is a lucky pooch that inherits the most amazing qualities its parents have to offer.

A blend of good looks, hypoallergenic dog qualities, high intelligence, and adorable personalities, these dogs truly check all the boxes. Aussiechons first appeared at the beginning of 2000 in the United States. By crossing two of the most popular dogs at the time, Aussiechons were predestined to be a success. They displayed a well-rounded behavior, an even temperament, and ideal learning skills from the get-go, and were met with great admiration among dog lovers.

Compared to other breeds, purebred and crossbreeds alike, the Aussiechon is new to the Dogdom. Because they have only been around for 20 years or so, these cute puppies don’t have much history to share with the world. To learn more about who they are and what they are like, we can take a look at the breeds that make up the new designer dogs.

The Miniature Australian Shepherd, who made its way to the United States a little over a century ago, is and has been for quite some time, one of America’s favorite Mini dogs. Mini American Shepherds or Mini Aussies as they are sometimes called, are the favorite pets of rodeo riders and cowboys, often being seen at their side during rodeo festivals. These little rodeo dogs are famously known for their herding skills, great loyalty toward their owners, and friendly nature. Awesome personality aside, Mini Australian Shepherds were chosen for the Aussiechon mix thanks in great part to their high intelligence and stunning looks.

A bubbly personality and a marshmallow-like appearance are what define the sweet Bichons. These beautiful little canines have an extensive history filled with luxury at royal courts in Europe, almost extinction due to the downfall of kingdoms, and cheered performances with the traveling circus. Despite their somewhat turbulent history, one thing remains certain: these glamorous dogs remain the same. They are sweet, charismatic, and generous in affection like they have always been. The Bichon Frise breed comes from the Island of Tenerife and was chosen for the Aussiechon mix for its resilience, hypoallergenic qualities, cuddly nature, and sincere affection.
